Javy Brown

Gina and Javy are intervention specialists for Cincinnati Public Schools. They work with teachers and students to help integrate assistive technologies into the classroom. They met with us to share how Clicker has positively impacted their medically fragile students. 

“One of the best things about Clicker is we can use it in combination with our other assistive technology tools, including switches and communication devices. We have one student who accesses the switch box with his foot. Completing the group writing activities with his classmates and being able to participate - fully - in a way that works best for his needs has certainly left a positive impact!”

Gina and Javy work together to create Clicker resources for students that struggle with physical disabilities, limited mobility, and cognitive difficulties. Creating activities using Clicker has not only increased the overall engagement of these students but enables them to actively participate and take ownership of their learning. 

“One of the things we love about Clicker is the resources are easy to create, and we can differentiate for our students with complicated needs. Then we can share these resources with the classroom teachers. Since we are in the classroom to support the teachers, we get to see first-hand the impact Clicker has on the students!”

The team shared an example of how they used Clicker Sentence Sets to create a sequencing activity for ‘Snowman Pudding’. This gave their students an opportunity to take part and experience the curriculum just like every other student does. Clicker has changed how these students access learning, and they can demonstrate their knowledge without their disability getting in the way.

“Our students love using Clicker. It has become a part of the classroom that the students really look forward to.  The amount of pride that we see when they write and create with Clicker is incredible!”
