Training checklists

Check that your software is working on all your devices in preparation for your training.

Chromebook

With a Clicker subscription, you can distribute your licenses across Windows / Mac PCs, iPads, and Chromebook users. You have access to all three Clicker Apps – Clicker Writer, Clicker Books, and Clicker Talk – on iPads and Chromebooks. Use the checklists below to ensure that your software is working on your devices in preparation for your training.

If you experience issues of any sort, please contact Support.

1) Latest version

Install the latest version to ensure you have all the current features.

If Clicker is currently installed, open the Help ribbon tab, click About Clicker, and note your Version number.

Click the installer link below and check the version number (v8.0.X.XXX) of the downloads. If yours is lower, follow the steps on that page to update:

If you run Sophos Antivirus, see:

2) Launch

Launch Clicker and check that it loads successfully.

If the blue loading screen gets stuck on a particular Step, disappears, or nothing seems to happen, see:

3) Predictor

To test the word prediction, click the    Predictor icon in the Document ribbon tab, and then start typing.

Suggested words should appear in a floating panel or above the bottom grid area.

If the Predictor icon is dimmed out and unusable, see:

4) Speech

To test the speech, type a sentence in the Document. When completed with punctuation, you should hear the text spoken, with words being highlighted in sequence.

Alternatively, click the    Speak Text icon. If the icon is dimmed out: click its dropdown arrow and choose a voice other than None.

5) Sound Recording

If the computer doesn’t have a built-in microphone, connect an external one before launching Clicker.

To test sound recording, click the Sound Recorder icon. Click the Record icon, talk a bit, and then click STOP. The Play icon should turn green. Click it and you should hear yourself talking.

If you can't hear the playback (despite hearing other sounds on the computer):

  1. In the Options ribbon tab, click Manage.
  2. In the Audio tab, move your microphone to the top of the list if required.

6) LearningGrids

To test opening a free resource, click the top-left    Explorer icon and open the LearningGrids tab. The website should load in the same window, listing the latest resources.

Click a resource’s Open button. It should load within Clicker and be usable.

If the website doesn't load, or you get an error message, see:

7) Saving and sharing

Make sure you can save and share your Clicker files between devices.

Share files on a Windows / Mac PC

1) Latest version

If Clicker Writer is already installed, iPads typically update apps automatically. To manually check for updates, launch the App Store and tap the top-right Account icon.

We also recommend updating your iPad to the latest iPadOS:

2) Launch

Launch Clicker Writer and check that it loads successfully.

If you get an error message, see:

3) License + Speech

To check that the app is licensed successfully, write some words, and then tap the    Speak Text icon.

If an error message says you're in Limited Access Mode, see:

  1. Tap the  Sound Recorder icon.
  2. Tap the red circle.
  3. If prompted to allow the app to access the microphone, tap OK.

  6. If prompted to allow the app to access the microphone, tap OK.
  7. Talk a bit and tap STOP.
  8. The Play arrow should turn green. Tap it and you should hear yourself talking.
