n today’s connected society, being able to share files quickly and easily is important. Sending / receiving assignments, exchanging ideas, or simply sharing a piece of work you’re proud of! It’s played a critical role throughout the COVID pandemic and remains highly important as 2021 continues to be a year of uncertainty.

However, the number of ways you can share files can be overwhelming, particularly if it involves devices from different platforms.

Therefore, we’ve recently updated our website with a file sharing guide. It provides clear explanations of which file sharing methods are available on your device and the steps required to utilise them:

Using cloud storage

If you’ve heard this term before but don’t quite understand it, you’re not alone!

Cloud storage is simply a folder on the Internet that you can access from any device. You can open / save files to this folder just like any other. Saving a file using one device will automatically synchronise it to your other devices (for example, you can save a Clicker Set using a Windows PC and then your students could open it on their iPads).

You can also make certain files / folders available to other people (on a read-only basis or with full editing control). These will then appear in their cloud storage for easy access.

Using email

Most people are familiar with sending / receiving email attachments, so it's a good way to share files every now and then. Our Clicker and DocsPlus files are usually small and safe enough for most email filters to let them through. In addition, all of our LearningGrids resources can be shared directly from the LearningGrids site by email.

You can also make certain files / folders available to other people (on a read-only basis or with full editing control). These will then appear in their cloud storage for easy access.

Using the network

If your computer is connected to your organization's network, and your IT Support has performed a network installation of Clicker 8 or DocsPlus, network file sharing should already be set up.

Files saved to the default “Shared Files” location should appear in the same place on all other computers on the network.

This is handy for sharing between school computers, but it won’t work if the computer is taken home.

The COVID pandemic has significantly changed the way we all work and learn. Most students have had to adapt to remote learning, and in many cases, parents are finding themselves home schooling for the first time.

Free access

During the first nationwide lockdown in 2020, we offered free Clicker and DocsPlus access to anyone seeking to use it in their remote learning strategies. This proved greatly beneficial for thousands of students, especially those requiring additional literacy support that would normally be provided by teaching staff. The assistive features in our software enabled these students to work more independently and achieve writing success.

We’ve once again offered free access this year, through to March 8th, 2021. Whether your school has Clicker/DocsPlus or not, staff and parents alike are welcome to request free access for their home devices (Windows PC, Mac, iPad or Chromebook).

Site License customers

While a Site License typically covers the use of software on all computers at school, ours includes home access as well.

This means that parents can request license codes from their school to install Clicker/DocsPlus on their home devices for the duration of the school’s subscription.

If you’re a Site License customer, click below to see how you can provide software to your students:

If you’re a parent, contact your school to see if they can provide you with Clicker/DocsPlus. If your school doesn’t have a Site License, you can still apply for the temporary lockdown access mentioned above.

Training and support

Whether you’re new to our software or just need a refresher, we provide a variety of free training resources on our website. Click below to access our “get started” guides, bitesize video tutorials and webinars:

In particular, we recommend schools watch our Top tips for remote learning with Clicker webinar, and parents watch our Clicker@Home webinar.

Eye gaze technology has developed rapidly in the last few years, with companies like Tobii Dynavox providing increasingly accurate hardware for users. Unfortunately, it remained unavailable on iPad for several years.

However, in 2019, Apple released a new version of iOS designed just for iPads. Named iPadOS, one of the many changes was the addition of mouse support.

The AssistiveTouch feature, first introduced in 2011, was expanded to include an on-screen pointer and a “dwell” feature. Users can move the pointer by connecting a mouse or other input device, with the ability to select things by hovering the pointer over them.

Thanks in part to these changes, the world’s first eye gaze device for iPad is now available from Inclusive Technology - the Skyle. Used in conjunction with AssistiveTouch, it’s now possible to control an iPad Pro with your eyes as fluidly as with your fingers! To learn more, see: http://www.inclusive.co.uk/news/introducing-skyle-the-world-s-first-eye-tracker-for-ipad-pro-a515

All our iPad apps – Clicker WriterClicker CommunicatorDocsPlus and SuperKeys – are compatible with the Skyle device and can take advantage of the iPad’s “dwell” feature.

As with Switch Control, we’ve produced a handy guide for AssistiveTouch that serves as a companion to the official Apple documentation, with information about connecting wired and wireless devices to the iPad Pro and how to set up AssistiveTouch.

Our new Clicker universal licensing gives you access to both Clicker 8 (on Windows / Mac) and Clicker Writer (on iPad / Chromebook).

Your licenses can be used interchangeably to make Clicker available on any combination of device types.

For example, with 10 licenses, you could install:

If you have a OneSchool Site License, you have unlimited licenses and can also provide access to Clicker 8 and Clicker Writer on your teachers’ and students’ home devices!

To learn more about license management and home use, see:

Clicker 8 for Windows / Mac

Clicker 8 uses a new, modern installer, which is smaller in size and has better performance.

Like previous versions, there is a network install method for deploying Clicker 8 to multiple computers across a network.

For full instructions, see:

Clicker Writer for iPad

The app is free to download from the App Store.

Once installed, simply launch the app and enter your Organization ID and Password to license the iPad.

For guidance on deploying via Apple’s Volume Purchase Program, see:

Clicker Writer for Chromebook

The app is free to download from the Chrome Web Store.

On first launch, it will ask permission to access your Google account details. This is used to check that your Google account has been allocated a license (via our license management site). No need to input any codes or login details!

From then on, you can use the app on any Chromebook you sign into.

For guidance on deploying via the Google Admin Console, see:

Please note that all licenses are on a 3-year subscription basis. There are no additional costs for technical support or updates. We will also be adding further features and apps during your subscription period.
