Picturize your document

Automatically add pictures to words in your document:

  1. Go to the Document ribbon and click  .
  2. Choose the image library you want to Picturize with.
  3. Choose whether to ignore high frequency words.
  4. Click Picturize. 

Picturize the document as you type

Automatically add pictures to words as you type them into your document:

  1. Go to the Settings cog .
  2. Select the ‘Pictures’ tab.
  3. Turn on ‘Add Picturize as I type into the Document’.
  4. Choose your Picture Library and choose if you want to add or ignore high frequency words.
  5. Tap away from the App Settings to return to your document.

Picturize suggestions

Picturize your Predictor and Spell Check suggestions:

  1. Go to the Settings cog .
  2. Select the ‘Pictures’ tab.
  3. Turn on ‘Picturize words in the Predictor’ and ‘Picturize words in the Spell Checker’.
  4. Choose your Picture Library and choose if you want to add or ignore high frequency words.

Overview

Use Clicker Analytics for insights on how a child has put together a piece of writing:

  • Click the Analytics icon in the lower toolbar:
    • On the left, the review chart displays a summary of how text has been entered into the document.
    • On the right, the words in the document are coloured according to how they were entered.

Drill down

Get more detail about how each word was input:

  • Open the tabs on the left to see all the words input from a particular source.
  • Click words to view more information. You can see:
    • Original spellings or attempts at a word.
    • Whether the speech tool was used to listen to a word.
    • Clicker Sets that were used.

More tools in the Analytics ribbon:

  • Open the menu:
    • Choose Statistics to see information on the structure of the writing.
    • Choose Teacher Notes to add or view your notes.
    • Choose Print to print the Analytics data.

  • Check Print Analytics when printing a document to print Analytics information alongside a learner’s work.

Record Voice Notes

Record writing ideas as Voice Notes:

  • Click record voice note to open the Voice Input menu.
  • Here you can choose to Dictate to Document or Record a Voice Note.
  • Click record icon to start recording, click it again to stop recording.
  • Click Done when you’ve finished.
  • Up to six Voice Notes can be recorded.

Play Voice Notes

Play Voice Notes at any time while writing:

  • Each Voice Note appears as a colored speech bubble to the left of the document.
  • Click a Voice Note to hear it.
  • Right-click or long-tap a Voice Note to re-record or delete it.

Create a Clicker Board

Use a Clicker Board to help children plan and develop ideas before writing:

  1. Select the Clicker Board tab in Clicker Writer.
  2. Select in the top toolbar, then choose New Clicker Board.
  3. Choose a template to get started.
  4. There are different ways to add a cell to your Board:
    • Drag  from the left toolbar on to the Board.
    • Double-click or tap on the Board.
    • Drag from the round handles of a previously placed cell to create a new cell linked to the first.
  5. Double-click or tap a cell to add text.
  6. Select to open the on-screen keyboard.
  7. Drag on to the Board to add a Voice Note. Select in the top toolbar to make a recording.
  8. Link two cells by dragging from the round handle on to the other cell.
  9. Select to add a new tab to the Board.
    • Move between the tabs to create or access more content.
    • Double-click or tap a tab to rename it.
  10. Go to and select Save As to save your activity. Select Print to print your Clicker Board.

Edit a Clicker Board

Edit a Clicker Board to organize ideas more clearly:

  • Drag the square handles to re-size a cell.
  • In the left toolbar:
    • Go to with a cell selected, then choose a new shape for the cell.
  • In the top toolbar:
    • Go to to change the color of the background and with a cell selected, to change the color of the cell, the text within it and the border.
    • Go to with a cell selected to add a picture to the cell.
      • Choose from images in the CrickPix library, Widgit Symbols, images saved on your device or take a photo with the camera on your device.
      • With no cells selected, go to to Picturize your Clicker Board using images from the CrickPix library or with Widgit Symbols.
  • Select multiple cells to edit them at the same time. You can move them around, resize them, change their color and change their shape.
  • Send your Board to the Document to support writing in different ways:
    • Go to   .
    • Choose Send to Document to send a diagram of the board, the text or Voice Notes to the Document.
    • Select Create Word Bank to turn your Clicker Board into a Word Bank.
Clicker Writer

Use the Switch Access Tool to change how learners access Clicker:

  1. Select from the toolbar to open the Switch Access Tool.
  2. On the left, select your chosen access method.
  3. Adjust the settings to change how the access method behaves.

Single Switch

  • Choose Single Switch in the Switch Access Tool to access Clicker Writer with a single switch.
  • Adjust the speed of the scan highlight by using the and buttons.
  • Select the Color circle to choose a scan highlight color.
  • Select Sound to turn on auditory feedback.
  • In Scan Sound:
    • Toggle on Beep to have a sound played when an item is scanned.

SuperKeys

SuperKeys helps users who struggle to target small keys by grouping them into clusters. Select a cluster to enlarge it, then choose a key.

To turn on SuperKeys:

  • Select SuperKeys in the Switch Access Tool.
    • Choose Keyboard to group letters in the on-screen keyboard into clusters.
    • Choose Keyboard and Grids to group letters in the on-screen keyboard and cells in the Writing Grids.

Switch Access Icon

  • The icon will show Active when switch access has been turned on.
  • Select the icon again to reopen the Switch Access Tool.

Help Button

  • The Help button opens the Help at the Switch Access page.
Clicker Books

  • Select Restore Defaults at the bottom of the window at any point to restore the default settings.

Two Switches

  • Choose Two Switches in the Switch Access Tool to access Clicker Books with two switches.
  • Choose from:
    • Direct Access - press the switch to turn the page.
    • Scan - scan objects on a page with switch 2 and select with switch 1.

    • Go back – return to the previous page.
    • Speak page text - text on the page is read out.

Clicker Writer

General

Adjust the General settings to change general Clicker Writer app settings:

  • Select cog to open the App Settings. It will open the General page: 
    • Select Font to change the default font style and size. This will affect any new Document you create.  
    • Select Font Color to change the default font color in the document. This will affect any new Document you create. 
    • Select Background Color to change the default background colour of the document. This will affect any new Document you create.  
    • Select On-screen Keyboard to change the layout of the onscreen keyboard. 
    • Select Font Size to change the size of the font in a Clicker Set. 
    • Choose from the language settings for different regional options. 
  • Select Restore Defaults at the bottom of the window at any point to restore the default App Settings.  
  • Select Text formatting formatting in the lower Toolbar to change text formatting options in the document you currently have open.

Speech

Adjust the speech settings to change the voice and when Clicker speaks:

  • Select cog and choose Speech:
    • Adjust the slider to change the speed of the voice.
    • Select Highlight Color to change how text is highlighted when it’s read out.
    • Open the Voice drop-down box to change the voice Clicker uses.

      A prompt will appear if we recommend using a higher quality voice.

    • Select Add from the drop-down menu to download more voices to use. 
    • Choose Listen to hear a sample of the voice.
    • Use the Speak As You Write switches to change when Clicker Speaks.
    • Choose whether Clicker Sets and Suggestions are read aloud on right-click.

Tools & Controls

Adjust the Tools & Controls settings to change which tools are available:

  • Select cog and choose Tools & Controls:
    • Use the Tools switches to change which tools are offered to learners. This changes whether learners can access the Predictor, Dictation, Voice Notes, and text formatting options.
    • Choose whether clicks or taps are displayed on the screen.

Suggestions

Adjust the Suggestions settings to change the level of support provided by the Predictor and Spell Check:

  • Select cog and choose Suggestions:
    • Use the Spell Check switch to choose whether Spell Check is turned on or off.
    • Turn automatic capitalization for first letters of sentences or names on or off with the switches.
    • In Word Pool, add words to include them in the suggestions. Add in common misspellings and change the pronunciation of words.
    • Use the Predict Next Word switch to change whether the Predictor offers words before any letters are typed in the document.
    • Use the SoundsLike Prediction drop-down box to change the priority given to phonetic spellings of words.
    • Use the Vocabulary Database drop-down box to change the size of the database the Predictor uses for vocabulary.
    • Change the number of words offered by the Predictor and Spell Check.
    • Use the Size drop-down box to change the size the Predictor and Spell Check are displayed on the screen.

Pictures

Adjust the pictures settings to change the picture support offered in Clicker:

  • Select cog and choose Pictures.
  • Use the Send Picture with Text switch to change whether images in cells are sent into the Document.
  • In Picturize, choose whether pictures appear:
    • In the Document
    • In the Predictor
    • In the Spell Check
  • Choose if you want to ignore high frequency words
  • Choose which Picture Libraries are preferred when using Picturize.
  • Select Manage Libraries to see which Libraries are included in your subscription
  • Download or Remove Widgit Symbols or the CrickPix2 picture library from your device.

Page Settings

  • Go to books_settings to open the Page Settings window:
    • Go to ‘Layout’ to change the page layout.
    • Go to ‘Textboxes’ to lock the textboxes Page Object.
    • Go to ‘Picture Boxes’ to lock the picture boxes Page Object and change the tools that are available for adding pictures to a page.
    • Go to ‘Sound Boxes’ to lock Read buttons and Record & Play buttons.
  • When a Page Object is locked:
    • It cannot be edited.
    • No further instances of that Page Object can be added to the page.

Create a Word Bank

Create grids to support children writing using more difficult vocabulary:

  • Click new clicker set and select New Clicker Set.
  • Choose Word Bank.
  • Click add and select Add Multiple Grids, choose whether to sort the words into Topic grids or Alphabetic grids. Type or paste text into the text box to make up your Word Bank and choose whether to filter out most common English words. Click Create Grids to create your Word Bank.

Create a Talk Set

Create an activity to support learners who struggle to express themselves in written form:

  • Open the toolbar. Select  BooksMenu  and choose new Talk Set.
  • Give your activity a title.
  • Pick which type of activity you want to create: Listen & Say, Talk About, or Tell the Story.
  • Go to  Add  and choose where you’d like to search for pictures to add to your activity:
    • Select the pictures you want to use and then click Done.
  • Select  go  to use the Talk Set.

Add a Picture Bank to a Clicker Book

Add pictures for children to choose from when creating a Clicker Book:

    • Go to the Picture Boxes tab and select add to add a Picture Bank.
    • Give your Picture Bank a name.

    • Type or paste text into the ”Words” text box to make up your Word Bank.
    • Toggle “Available on the current page” on, then go back.
    • Repeat to add multiple Word Banks.
  • Toggle “Show Word Bank” immediately on for the Word Bank to appear when you start writing in a text box.
  • Drag the grids to change the order of multiple Word Banks.

Use a Word Bank

  • Select a Text box:
    • Choose picture bank if the Word Bank isn’t set to open immediately.
    • Select a word or phrase to add it to the text box.
    • Use sound-shift to hear a word in the Word Bank.

Create a Clicker Book

    • Choose ‘Select’ to change page settings.
    • Go to books_duplicate to duplicate a page.
    • Go to books_delete to delete a page.
    • Go to books_settings to change page layout and lock Page Objects.
    • Select ‘Done’ when you’ve finished making changes.
    • Select a page to open it for further editing.
