The Developmental Writing Scale (DWS) is a 14-point scale created by Janet Sturm that helps educators track the progress of their students’ writing. It covers emergent writing through to conventional writing and includes accommodations for students who use alternative pencils. Clicker can be used as an assistive technology solution for those who are working through the Developmental Writing Scale and require an alternative pencil option.
